Formulas

Power Density = Output Power × Gain / (4 × π × Distance²)
Distance is converted to meters before calculation
mW to W = mW × 0.001
dBm to W = 10^((dBm - 30) / 10)
dBW to W = 10^(dBW / 10)

Diagrams & Theory

Power density shows how much RF power is spread over a surface area at a given distance from an antenna.

As distance increases, power density decreases with the square of distance. Higher output power or antenna gain increases power density.

Example

Input Example

Output Power: 10 W
Gain: 2 linear
Distance: 10 m

Output

Power density = 10 × 2 / (4π × 10²) = 0.0159 W/m².
